A Prayer for Sweet Pea

I brought Sweet Pea into the vet this morning to get his mouth checked out. He started bleeding from his mouth on Saturday. He was fine Sunday and Monday. Tuesday night it started bleeding again, and Wednesday morning, bleeding just a tiny amount.
I was all ready for them to say he needed more dental work, but the vet said he couldn't find anything wrong with his mouth. He did notice that Sweet Pea's gums were very pale. So they took some blood (not very fun, as they had to put a little face mask muzzle on Sweet Pea as he was NOT at all happy) to see what his white and red blood cell count is. Of course, I'm already thinking that he is bleeding internally somewhere. But, he is not vomiting blood, he's still eating well, and has his usual high energy level. In fact, when I got home from work on Tuesday before his mouth started bleeding again, he galloped over to me and jumped up with his front paws on my leg, giving me a very vocal happy trill hello. Lot's of confusing signs here. For now I wait to here about the blood results. If the white cell count is high, my vet will put him on an antibiotic and we'll go from there.
So say a little prayer for Sweet Pea. He is the sweetest of boys and a champion head-butter.

My heart sank when I saw your blog title on my sidebar. Oh no--prayers are good, but the reasons for them are sometimes bad.
I hope (and pray) that all will come out right.
Oh, I love sweet boy cats who are head-butters. That is my Cassidy. Bonk, bonk--sometimes in the middle of the night. Wake up, mom, and tell me you love me.

Thanks Lynne and Donna. I'm feeling pretty depressed. The blood work is not in yet but this morning was the first morning that Sweet Pea was acting not well. He bled a little from his mouth and ate some chicken baby food but he just wanted to hide in a paper bag. I brought out some of his favorite toys to see if I could get him interested but he just turned away (Apu and Woody though were more then happy to play)

I am praying that his tests check out okay, it is hard to have something wrong with your pet, they can't complain.

Thanks so much Laura and Margaret.

Still waiting to hear back from the vet's office. I called a little while ago and everyone is in surgery now so I'll need to call back. It was a roller coaster weekend with Sweet Pea perking up on Saturday and acting almost totally normal...running around and jumping up to the open windows, jumping in my lap and purring away and eating pretty well. Then, yesterday morning blood starting coming out of his mouth again for about 10 minutes. After that, he was back to normal and ate really well. Last night he was all balled up and his head hanging low almost touching the floor, obviously not feeling well and was the same this morning. Lord knows what is going on with him.
