Spider Pig, Spider Pig, does whatever a Spider Pig does

Okay, I can't be the only one that is excited about the new Simpsons movie can I....can I??? Well, I am. My niece told me months ago that she couldn't think of anyone she'd rather see the movie with than her Aunt Possumlady. I'm so proud!

Sorry for the lack of posts, but Harry Potter has me in a death-eaters grip to finish the book, hopefully this weekend.

Until then, in the immortal words of Nelson Muntz

"Smell ya later"

Hi there,

I have been absent from blogging for about a week, too. It's hard to believe, but I've never watched an episode of the Simpsons. Now that this movie is out and getting such rave reviews, I am wondering what I missed. Do you think I can see the movie and appreciate it if it is my first Simpsons experience?

Just recently I saw my first animated movie in a movie theater. A friend talked me into seeing Ratatouille. It was cute, but not enough to win me over to the ranks of adults who love animated kid's films. Another friend says I have to see The Incredibles. (Prior to Ratatouille, I think the only animated movie I had seen was Toy Story on tv.) Not that this is a big deal. For some reason, I hardly ever see any movies. Maybe 2 hours is too long of a commitment (haha).

LOL! I hope you have a great time at the movies and finish that book!

I'm not a fan of the Simpsons but I heard the movie is good.

Wow! I'm speechless. I mean, I knew there were folks out there that didn't like the Simpsons but I never thought I'd know someone that has never even seen one episode!! Did you not watch the Tracy Ullman show in the late 80s? That is where they got there start. I remember when they announced they were going to do a half hour show in 1989. I excitedly told Paul Cano and he said "it'll never make it, I don't see them sustaining a full half hour". HA!

If you're not an animated movie lover, I doubt that this movie would change your mind. I still haven't seen it yet but I would suggest you watch an episode or two of their older reruns (usually on around 6 or 6:30 nightly on Fox, as I've seen them on tv around that time around the country every time I travel).

One (out of the many) thing that I have loved about the Simpsons is there use of bizarre sayings and jabs and/or names that you would only get if you are quite well read.

One example: a very early episode has Bart sent to France as an exchange student. But he goes to live with two criminals in the south of France who use him as a slave to help them make wine. The two french criminals are Cesar and his nephew Ugolin. As soon as I saw the episode I knew they had named them from the french movie Jean de Florette with the main characters Cesar Sobebyran and his nephew Ugolin (not very common names). It wasn't until a kind of Simpsons bible came out in the late 90s that had a lot of the inside info that I found out that my hunch was correct!

Oh, Oh, Oh, and another thing. Sometimes you just gotta like Homer being stupid. I watched Charlie Rose last night and he had on Matt Groening (creator) and James L. Brooks (producer) of the Simpsons to talk about the movie.

Matt said one of his favorite lines was from the Monorail episode where Homer opens up a cabinet where a fire extinguisher should have been. In it was a huge possum with a lot of baby possums on its back that was hissing and Homer says "I call the big one Bitey". Classic!

Bart also had an elephant named "Stampy", and a snake named "Strangles". Oh, and Homer also had a pet lobster named "pinchy"

You gotta love it.

Well, I'm laughing at how much you love it! I did watch the Tracy Ullman show, although not religiously. I remember thinking it was funny. Maybe I did see a segment with the Simpsons characters. My memory is not that good! For instance, I know I saw Jean de Florette, but I'd never remember the characters names! You've got a sharp mind, Possumlady.

Possumlady,

We saw the Simpsons movie over the weekend, and I whispered to my wife after the first five very funny minutes and said, "we should have brought the Possumlady". I could hear you laughing at all the right moments.

I need to see it again to pick up some of the jokes/references that were going on in the background (signs that people had in the crowd, etc).

Happy Birthday Possumlady!
