It's the Little Things in Life

It's Day Two of returning to work after the back to back blizzards. Along with still dealing with mountains of snow and two hour commutes when it should be 30 minutes (in fact, I'm sitting in my office right now hearing the honking of horns outside--oh how I don't want to get in that traffic again), I'm dealing with mountains of paperwork from the unexpected time off.

In trying to keep myself calm and centered, I'm thinking of all the little things in my life that make me smile. Oh sure, my animals keep me on my toes and make me smile and laugh every day. That is a given. But, as I was standing at the lunch counter today, I started looking at my scarf and I smiled. I LOVE my scarf! Is that silly? I got it at Kohls over a year ago and each and every time I put it on I smile. It goes with everything I have and the colors are so bright and cheerful, even the black has little shimmering threads. Everyone that has seen it comments on it and thinks it is handmade.

So what about you? Is there something in your home or office, or a piece of clothing that is guaranteed to put a smile on your face? Enquiring (possumlady) minds want to know!!

P.S. I'm sure you noticed my new header photo. Can you tell I was dealing with cabin fever and thinking of a time with no snow? I know the photo is too big but I don't know how to shrink it. I also inadvertently made the type of the entire blog larger because I wanted to make my header type larger. Obviously, I don't know what I'm doing. Any instructions would be greatly appreciated!!

I wear my Mom's wedding ring every day- I never take it off. I look at it many times throughout the day and smile when I think of her.

I LOVE your new header!

I can't think of one thing like your scarf...but I understand the concept.
As for your new header photo--yes, I remember when you were painting the furniture. And the cushions purchase too.
I'm afraid I'm no help on shrinking the photo--when I put up a new photo a while back, I cut it down to size on my photo editor before I uploaded it.
I usually love winter, but this one is starting to wear on me...too long with unrelieved cold.

Being a fashion frump I keep clothing for a long time and my favorite garments have become my ongoing travel wardrobe. There is hardly anything I can put on that doesn't remind me of some wonderful trip. They all make me smile.
Love your blog.

I love the new photo - just the breath of spring that I needed to remind me that better weather is coming! And I love the scarf - very cool.

Personally I like the header photo the size it is, and I think the font being big is fine too. But my screen at home might be a differnet story (it is smaller so it is harder to fit stuff on). If you go to the layout tab, in page elements (which is usually where you start) there is the item called header at the top - there is an edit link in that box, click it and pick shrink to fit (you might have to do it quickly because with a picture already in there it will take that option away and show the picture - but if you click it quick it will keep the option). Then just save it and it should shrink it to the standard blogger header size. For the font you can just adjust it in the layout area - it will show the size in the box below (in the layout tab pick the "fonts and colors" and on the left scroll down to the text and select that - on the right use the larger and smaller things to get the size you want).

Honestly what makes me happy to see everyday is all the blogs I follow (well, sometimes they are sad of course), because I have met such wonderful people through them.

Love your patchwork scarf!

I have a Tibetan Singing Bowl in my home office - right where I can see it and make it chime when the mood strikes. I also have a florite sphere, a picture of my best friend, and a picture of my two special needs cats.

All make me smile - I love them!

Aww Lynne, you made me smile! I, too, wear my mom's wedding ring and look at it numerous times throughout the day!

Donna, really? nothing? Don't you have a stuffed pig or pig slippers? That would make me smile.

Welcome Lois (Lo)! Yes, old clothes can definitely make me smile. I still have my pair of tan canvas Keds that I wore on safari in Africa and I still think I have dust on them from 1996!!

Thanks D-G! Yes, I have to admit that even I, lover of snow and winter, is ready for this season to be over!!

Hi Amy and thanks so much for the info! I think I need to work on my header a bit more. Yes, the blogsphere is an incredible place and meeting so many people with like interests is so rewarding!

Hi Angela, the Tibetan singing bowl sounds intriquing! I would love to hear it.
